Rain ! Rain ! Beautiful Rain !

Yes !
We had some rain ,
I mean proper rain at last !
Not just the drizzles
we've been having but rain to replenish the underground reserves.
100mm+ on thursday(reports in the area says 130) and 31mm on saturday.

The rain on thursday brought some damage - but nothing we can't handle !
The one tree fell over but the main root is still in the ground
so it will not die and actually it looks pretty cool with the tree lying at this angle.
Bets is planning a garden around "Fallen Tree".
The dogs love it as they are now also able to climb the tree
and follow the cats into the tree :
and at a different angle you can see "Fallen Tree" :

Stompie (an asperger cat) having a rest after being chased way up into the tree by Boela :

The rain on saturday damming up a little bit :

Today the clouds are building up and it looks like more rain is coming.
I am afraid that there won't be many postings this week as
Henk, Tracy and Amelia is arriving tomorrow for the Christmas period !

Until Next Time !!

PS : I am still hoping to get a Kindle  for Christmas !
PS 2 : Sorry about all the embedded links !
I was playing with Amazon and learned how to try to sell some of their
amazing products that they even deliver to South Africa and any other country !

Rain ! Rain !

Just a quick note to let you all know that after I wrote yesterday that we haven't had enough rain yet the rains came last night. I was unable to measure the exact amount but the rain meter, which measures up to 100mm of rain, was full! and that was at 4 a.m. The whole plot looks flooded , but the only damage so far is a tree that fell over and flattened our fence around the house. ( we have one fence around the house and one fence around the plot )

Pictures will follow - if not tonight when I get home from work then tomorrow !

Cheers !

It's Been A While ...

At last a quick chance to update the blog - what a hectic run-up to the festive season ! I have been too busy to get to the blog !

The puppies are now two terrors ! Sasha survived her tick bite fever X 2 that she had - both canine and human strains ! Virtually every afternoon we have a thunderstorm - mostly just thunder, lightning and power failure with very little rain. Although we've had a bit of rain it is not nearly enough. The soil is so dry that it actually cracks.

In the meantime we started picking the small yellow pear-shaped tomatoes - can one describe something as extra-super sweet ? Here are some pictures of some of the produce growing currently :

Artichoke

Borage
Note that the borage flower is said to be the only blue edible flower - tasting like cucumber. In Afrikaans the name of the plant is "komkommerkruid" - translated that means cucumber weed !

Artichoke

Cherry Tomato

Savoy Cabbage

Echinacea

Flowers

Peppers - yellow

Brinjal

Tomatoes

Maize

Onions

Peppers

Till later !
